Best Travel Options between Beijing and Xian

If you are in the process of planning your Beijing tour? Most probably you are also considering a side trip to Xian, a famous historical city in China, which is home to the archaeological wonder - Terracotta Warriors.

Xian is situated about 1000 km to the southwest of Beijing. You have several options of traveling from Beijing to Xian - by plane, by daytime high-speed train, by overnight direct train, or first visit some important cities on your way before you reach Xian from Beijing.

You can make a doable Xian day trip from Beijing by flight, but we suggest you stay one or two nights in Xian to see, touch and feel the essence and highlights of Xian's long history and splendid culture. 1. Travel From Beijing to Xian by High Speed Daytime Train

For the Beijing Xian High Speed Train, the Beijing terminus is Beijing West Railway Station, with the Xian terminus atXian North Railway Station. The major calling points are Shijiazhuang, Anyang and Luoyang on route.

Currently there are over 10 daily high-speed trains running between Beijing and Xian. The fastest high speed train takes 4 hours and 23 minutes; the slowest takes 6 hours. You are supposed to reach the station at least half hour before departure.

2. Getting from Beijing to Xian by Overnight Train ( Normal Fast Speed )

Important Notice: The above-mentioned overnight trains start from Beijing West Railway Station and arrive at Xian Railway Station. So don't be confused with Xian North Railway Stationwhich accommodates the high speed trains from Beijing.

3. Traveling from Beijing to Xian by flight

The planes take off at Beijing International Capital Airport and land at Xian Xianyang International Airport. The one and half hour flight doesn't include the time and hassle getting to and from the airport.

Advantages: Fastest, Easy to Book Your Tickets, Frequent and often less expensive than train Disadvantages: Airport Inconvenience, Sometimes not On Time, Both Airports in Beijing and Xian are out of town.

4. Visiting the Important Cities between Beijing and Xian before You Reach Xian

Between Beijing and Xian also lie some UNESCO World Cultural Heritage crowned destinations like Datong (Yungang Grottoes), Pingyao (Pingyao Ancient City), and Luoyang (Longmen Grottoes and Shaolin Temple) and Yan'an (Hukou Waterfalls) which could be fit into your Beijing Xian tour package if you have enough time traveling time between Beijing and Xian.

High speed trains connect Beijing with Luoyang, Pingyao and Yan'an. Plentiful daily trains run from Beijing to Datong.
