The temple consists of fie courtyards, with the middle courtyard horizontally at the foot of Mt. Hongluo. In the middle courtyard, arranged from south to north are the entrance gate, Tianwang Hall, Mahavira Hall and Sansheng Hall
The east courtyard contains the guest room, kitchen, abbot’s quarters and lodgings for visiting monks. Yanshan Hall, by the side of the east courtyard, serves as a retirement end of the temple is a pagoda.
Hongluo Temple is once an important center of the Pure Land Sect of Chinese Buddhism, and attracted a continuous stream of eminent monks seeking enlightenment. Two of the 13 patriarchs of the Pure Land Sect became patriarchs here.
Hongluo Temple has also been famous for centuries for its tradition of qigong, which are stil practiced today.
