Spend 2-3 hours hiking the eastern ramparts, with optional cable car access. Afterward, continue to Longqing Gorge, transformed into a dazzling ice lantern festival with intricate ice sculptures, colorful lights, and winter activities. Pick from your hotel in Beijing around 8:00am. First drive along Jingzang Highway for about 85 km and get to the Badaling Great Wall , one of the most magnificent sections of the Great Wall around Beijing. Hiking the east part of the Badaling Great Wall for 2-3 hours. Cable car up and down is available, but it is optional (pay on your own). The Badaling section of Great Wall is about 3, 740 meters long and averagely 8 meters high. The highest section is 15 meters high. The wall is wide enough for five horses to ride abreast. Badaling was the earliest part open to the visitors among all the sections of the Great Wall in Beijing.
After lunch, then move on to Longqingxia Ravine in Yanqing County, about 100 km northwest of Beijing city center to enjoy ice sculptures and carvings during Longqingxia Ice Lantern Festival . Longqingxia ( Longqing Gorge ) may not compare to the winter wonders of the Harbin, but it's the only large ice engraving festival around the Beijing area.
This famous ice and snow fetival boasts the three intriguing items – Ice Lanterns, Ice Carving and Snow Sculptures. Each year Longqing Gorge Ice Lantern Festival has a different theme for the ice and lantern activities. In the past over 20 years, it has been held each year. Over 400 ice sculptures made by both Chinese and foreign artists are exhibited there.
After the Longqing Gorge and Badaling day trip, you are transferred back to your lodging hotel in Beijing.
