Plan your Great Wall tour? If you are interested in hiking a wild and unrestored section of the Great Wall, Shixiaguan Great Walll is your ideal choice. At the time of my writing, Shixiaguan Great Wall is the only unrestored Great Wall that is officially open to the public known as Ruined Badaling Great Wall (八达岭古长城).
Shixiaguan Great Wall ( or Ruined Badaling Great Wall ) is located 5km to the southwest of the restoredBadaling Great Wall. This section of the Great Wall is about 8km long, meandering along the mountain up and down with steep slopes. You are required to scramble all the way along the north side of the mountain, then hike down the steep slopes of the southeast mountain.
You may take Bus 919 from Deshengmen Bus Station or s trains from Beijing North Railway Station and get to Yanqing District, where you hire a local taxi or van to reach Shixiaguan Great Wall.
See Shixiaguan Great Wall photos below to have a virtual hike on the Wall.
First you need to walk along the stone paved steps up to the Wall snaking up to the mountain peak.
