In Beijing, like other cities in China, each neighborhood has its own food market of various sizes. In these markets, you buy fresh fruits, vegetables, freshwater food, seafood, meat cuts, stable food and a full range of Chinese cooking supplies.
The majority of the grocery markets start around 7:00am in the morning. Local residents and expats often to their local community markets to buy fresh vegetables and other Chinese cooking ingredients and condiments. Basically the food prices remain more competitive than those in supermarkets or the food markets housed in a department in Beijing.
The food prices usually are fixed in a food market for a particular day, which fluctuate day y day with the markets - supply and demand. So seldom people would bargain in a local food market. The vendor will provide you a plastic bag if you buy her or his stuff. People are encouraged to carry their own food containers like cloth bags or other forms of containers for environment protection.

If you are interested in Beijing food, take a short trip to have a market tour and have food walks in Beijing visiting local restaurants and food streets.
