Shidu Scenic Area

Shidu Scenic Area sits in Fangshan District southwest of central Beijing. The name Shidu means "ten crossings" or "ten jetties", a reference to the river-crossing landscape that shaped the area's older travel routes. The scenic area is rich in natural resources, with green vegetation covering more than 82 percent of the landscape.

The wider Shidu area covers more than 300 square kilometers. It stretches roughly 40 kilometers from Yidu Village in the east to Dashadi in the west, and runs from Sanqing Cave in the north toward Gaoliang Mountain in the south. Its highest point is Dawajiang, about 1,210.8 meters above sea level, while Zhangfang is one of the lowest points at about 84.2 meters.

Away from the denser parts of the city, Shidu is best understood as a nature-focused day trip or short retreat. Visitors come for open scenery, fresh air, mountain-and-water views, and a slower rhythm that makes it useful for recharging outside Beijing's urban core.
